Tadao Ando

Dream chair

Renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando has partnered with designers Carl Hansen and Søn to create a sculptural lounge chair. The Dream Chair pays tribute to Hans J. Wegner, and combines traditional Japanese design and Danish craftsmanship.

Pushing the boundaries of modern design, Ando, like Wegner, explores the possibilities of material and what is structurally possible. The beauty of the three-dimensional plywood used is that it can be curved along two axles while being moulded, giving it its shape.

Available in either oak or walnut without upholstery, or with fabric or leather upholstery on the front and an adjustable neck support, The Dream Chair is designed to encourage people to spend more time dreaming. That’s us sold.

From Ando:

“I have been an admirer of Wegner’s craftsmanship for many years. This collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn made it possible for me to create a piece of furniture from the ground up with the help of a team of skilled professionals.”
