Kram / Weisshaar: The future is digital

Used as an installation for Nilufar Gallery and now part of the  Adhocracy show at the Istanbul Design Biennial, each of these designs by Kram / Weisshaar begins with the horizontal surfaces ‘positioned in space’.

A web of thin bars are then used to support the surface, designed using custom software which ‘analyzes, modifies and paints the structure based on the forces passing through it’. These digital blueprints are then printed using the latest 3d printing technology.

The spidery digital design is surprisingly elegant and is certainly unique. Is this the fiture of design? Maybe – but at least we know it’ll still look great.
