The London Design Festival at the V&A

The V&A is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest museums of art and design, and will again this year host a number of exciting installations and exhibitions for The London Design Festival.

There’s an awful lot to be excited about, but for us the collaborative efforts by a number of designers in the ‘Bench Years’ exhibit in the John Madjeski Garden will be a real highlight. The Festival is collaborating with furniture and lighting producer Established & Sons to create a family of one-off benches.

Designers Barber Osgerby,Fernando Brizio, Martino Gamper,Konstantin Grcic, Sam Hecht &Kim Colin (Industrial Facility),AL_A, Jasper Morrison, LucaNichetto, Felix de Pass and Alexander Taylor will each design a bench accentuating the attributes of a specific material.

Another interesting collaboration will be that of the Royal College of Art Design Products programme and the American Hardwood Export Council. This will explore both the creative and the environmental potential of American hardwood, and will examine the life-cycle of its products through careful monitoring of chairs specifically designed for this purpose.

We can’t wait to see what’s been produced!
