A look at Furniture Magpies

Furniture Magpies are a quirky design making outfit based in High Wycombe. They specialise in regenerating old and discarded furniture, creating fun, original pieces that are as much art as they are functional.

Furniture Magpies are part of an ever-growing trend of designers revolting against years of ubiquitous, mass-produced convenience furniture. Quality, aesthetics and sustainability are what we want today.

Made up of a small team of designers and headed up by Nessa Doran O’Reilly and Sua Lee, this is what they say about their ethos:

“Our work strives to retain the character and story of the furniture we use, allowing the user an insight into their items original identity. We don’t believe in good furniture going to landfill when it can be redesigned into a piece that people can love all over again. Each design is a recipe and depending on the ingredients it comes out a little different every time”.

Furniture Magpies will be appearing at Tent London between 20-23 September 2011, Stand F07.
