Bark Furniture’s Kustom Collection

Cornwall based furniture design-makers Bark Furniture will be launching a new collection at the upcoming Clerkenwell Design Week. Known for their eclectic and retro designs, the new Kustom collection is funky, fun, and stylish.

The Kustom collection is ‘inspired by the dramatic detailing used by hot-rodders and customisers to enhance the beautiful lines of their American classic automobiles’. It comprises an armchair, a two-seater sofa and a coffee table, all handmade in solid black walnut.

This year will be the second time Bark Furniture showcase their work at Clerkenwell Design Week. Launched in 2010 by husband and wife Jonathan Walter and Lakshmi Bhaskaran, and based in Cornwall, much inspiration is drawn from mid-century design. The influence of the 50s and 60s in their angles and tones is palpable, and it really works. The quirky, vintage element is part of what Kronospan defined as the Bohemian Kitsch trend.

Clerkenwell Design Week runs from 22-24 May, and is a celebration of design (as you’d imagine), its ‘social impace, and its power for change’. There are some really exciting exhibitors this year, and we’re sure to feature more of them here. British design is falling back in love with fun, timeless design that, while un-pretentious, is still stylish.
