D&AD Student Awards – winners announced!

The winners of the D&AD Student Awards 2012 have been announced! Kronospan sponsored and helped judge the Furniture Design catagory, the brief being to ‘design a desk or work surface that will enhance the learning experience for a young student’. With the use of laptops, computers and mobile devices more common, and with this an increase in poor posture, this was a real challenge for the students.

Some really amazing work was submitted – but the winners in this catagory were Giho Yang of Kingston University, and Chiung Wen Chang from Nottingham Trent.

Giho Yang has created an ingenious desk which can be adjusted to both reading and writing positions, allowing the user to sit in a more comfortable and natural position.

Chiung Wen Chang designed a modular system, where the desk can be joined to others in a range of shapes, creating a more communal learning environment, and at a height appropriate to the young user.

Both designs are fantastic solutions to the brief, and we certainly look forward to what these talented designers have in store for the future!
