Karim Rashid’s Kitsch Rebellion

After a long stronghold on design, the minimalist, monochrome look is going out, and bright colours, fun shapes and weird, retro inspired shapes are on the rise. Design Boom featured such a designer today.

Karim Rashid, based in New York, is one such designer who brings a boundless joy and love of colour into his design. Although his site explains that his idea is to move away from nostalgia, his work is fantastically kitsch, but in a way which is totally modern and refreshing. Rejecting the pretentious design of minimalism, these pieces really are a breath of fresh air. Excellent stuff.
